Description

A mouse heap can be very useful for different types of mice such as the Wood Mouse, Common Vole and Pygmy Shrew. It is not necessary to install where mice make nests, but it ensures that food is always available so that mice can get through the winter more easily. The heaps are often placed near owl and kestrel nest boxes. In winter, these birds have difficulty finding enough prey, which is why the heap can be their savior during harsh winters. Buzzards, weasels and stoats will also often hunt around the heap.

A mouse heap therefore feeds many stomachs, it ensures a larger mouse population, which is then maintained by the increase in predators.

The construction is made of poles that are placed in such a way that branches and straw can be held together inside. A tube extends halfway up the heap. The other end of this tube is located at the bottom and is used for easy additional feeding.

The bottom is about 35 cm high and consists of a grid on which the branches are placed. Under the grid there is straw with a lot of grain.
