To promote the development of Krabbenscheer in the Rupelmond creek Agentschap Natuur en Bos opted to install water cages. Crab shaving is an important, but rare oxygenating plant that improves water quality.
Coots and fish, among others, like to eat the plant. Protecting the plants with a large water cage greatly increases the chance that the plant can develop.
