Description
Just below the grass surface, there are various types of larvae of beetles and mosquitoes, such as leatherjackets (larvae of the crane fly), but also other insect larvae and worms. These pests feed on the lawn, and various birds are fond of these insects and worms. Crows, however, cause even more damage to the lawn with their large beaks when they search for these larvae. Starlings, on the other hand, have a long, sharp beak that doesn't damage the lawn. By offering nesting opportunities for starlings, you attract them close to grassland, where the birds like to stay.
In autumn and winter, when there are few insects, the starling lives on fruit. Therefore, it is advisable to plant different fruit trees near the starling dovecote. In this way you attract the starlings to your site and help the birds with maintaining the lawn.
Ecovery can take care of both the construction and placement of the dovecote, as well as planting fruit trees.
