Description

This enclosure is used for both raising young and as a place to sleep in the winter. With this nest ball, a breeding wren pair is protected against nest robbers and enemies.

The male wren usually builds several nests, then the female (the 'winter queen') decides which nesting location suits her best to lay five to eight very small eggs. Because of this breeding biology, it is definitely advisable to hang several nest balls.

When hung completely freely, this nest ball is just as happy to be used by other cavity nesters. These could include blue- and black tits.

PLACEMENT
The suspension is done with the integrated stainless steel cord. The hanging loop can, for example, be attached to a branch stump without any problems. Wrens like to breed near the ground, in the 'green wilderness', in the undergrowth. They are not very good flyers and prefer to move in the undergrowth by hopping. Shady areas, directly in hedges, in undergrowth, in dense shrubs, in bushes or even on the balcony, are very popular.

MAINTENANCE
Cleaning should preferably be done in autumn or winter months. The steel cord can be removed and the upper shell easily lifted from the lower shell of the sphere. After cleaning, put the two halves back together and secure them with the cord.
