Description
If you place the box for the pied flycatcher, keeping great tits out is a top priority. This can be done by closing the entrance hole until mid-april, when the pied flycatcher returns from Africa it will not been occupied by the tits. Pied flycatchers have a lower weight and are no match to great tits, the stronger great tit attacks the eggs and the young and is therefore his biggest competitor.
LOCATION
Tits do not like temperatures that are too high, so do not hang the hive in full sun.
The direction is not of utmost importance, but in open areas it is best with the opening to the east. Tits are often the victims of cats, so it is best to hang the box at least 2m high.
If you hang the nest box in a tree, you can also provide additional protection with a marten and cat ring. It is best to hang different tit boxes at least 30m apart.
MAINTENANCE
Recommended to clean the nest box annually during winter.
