Description
This simple method of nest protection, devised by Jim Noel, can reduce predation by squirrels and cats by up to 90%. The sharp edges on the outside prevent climbing animals from easily reaching the nest. In addition, it provides a safe, less direct exit from the nest box for fledglings and is often used by parents as a lookout point.
INSTALLATION:
The mesh cube is best mounted when the eggs have been laid or when the young have hatched, as there are species that will not quickly choose a nest box with the mesh. For titmice, it makes no difference; they often still choose nest boxes where the mesh is already mounted.
