Description
The black redstart nest box is suitable for hanging in cities, villages or even industrial areas where you can simply attach it to a wall. If you choose to hang the nest box in the garden, it can also be inhabited by the red-breasted flycatcher, robin, white wagtail or wren.
The black redstart is not a very shy bird. He often makes his nest in buildings, old barns and sheds. Due to the renovation of houses and the demolition of old buildings with many niches and cracks, this bird is having a hard time.
The large oval entrance hole makes it possible to clean this cupboard without a hinged roof.
PLACEMENT
Due to the large entrance hole it is recommended to hang the nest box sheltered from driving rain and wind. This can be done, for example, under a gutter, branch or between ivy with the opening facing north or east. However, do not place the nest box completely out of sight because a black redstart likes it warm and prefers to breed in sunny places. There is no ideal hanging height for this species. Anything above 2 m is good, as the bird can even breed on mountain peaks of 3000 m.
MAINTENANCE
It's possible to clean the box once a year after the breeding season, but this is not necessary for black redstarts.
