Description
During mild winters, the bat box can also serve as a winter shelter. It is suitable for various species of bats including the Nathusius's pipistrelle, Common pipistrelle, Common long-eared bat and the Natterer's Bat. Hanging multiple boxes in the same area significantly increases the chance of success.
The draught-free and light-tight bat box from Ecovery has a hatch that hinges open at the side, which makes it possible to install a sturdy roof to prevent water from seeping in. Because the bat ladder has milled grooves instead of mesh, the bats' nails cannot get stuck when they climb up.
The entrance with a width of 1,5 cm allows bats to enter the box, but not birds. The natural roughness of the wood ensures that the bats can optimally climb and linger in the box.
PLACEMENT
Do not place near windows, artificial light sources or other sources of disturbance. Provide at least 4,5 m of free space under the bat box, with a clear approach route. If you have multiple bat boxes, it is best to give them different orientations. Preferably places near an existing bat flight path.
