There are two types of nest boxes for hedgehogs: a free-standing hedgehog house and a hedgehog house that is concealed under a pile of leaves or branches. Ecovery 's design ensures that the hedgehog house can be used in both situations.
PLACEMENT
With an opening to the north, add leaves or bark to the bottom.
If you want to imitate the most natural situation, it is best to choose the type with a shaft and ventilation pipe. This house is placed under a pile of leaves or branches where hedgehogs often get their food, such as snails. This type of hedgehog house is considered the most successful and can also be used under compost heaps or branch hedges. The heap also provides shelter and insulation.
If you prefer to use the hedgehog house separately in the garden, you can simply remove the ventilation pipe from the hedgehog house and push the shaft inwards. The sloping roof with water-resistant finishing layer is designed to ensure that rainwater drains well from a free-standing nest box.
MAINTENANCE
Clean once a year via the removable roof.
Because hedgehogs are very susceptible to chemical products, the hive should not be treated with any other product than ecological linseed oil.
