Description
The nest box has a double bottom for better insulation. Additional insulation can be achieved by placing hay in the box.
PLACEMENT
The box is best placed in a shrubby area under a pile of branches, garden waste, stones,blackberries or buried in a verge. The layer placed on the nest box must be at least 50 cm high. When installed , it may be useful to place a piece of PVC pipe with a diameter of 9 cm and a length of +- 50 cm at the entrance. The pipe, as it were, points the way to the entrance in the pile of branches and thus stimulates visits by the marten-like animals. Applying fish oil in the nest box can
serve as an additional attractant.
It is important that the box remains dry and free of draught, with the opening facing south or towards a sheltered side.
MAINTENANCE
Because marten-like animals are susceptible to chemical products, the nest box should not be treated with any other product.
Entrance
The tube points the way to the entrance in the heap of branches, as it were, and thus stimulates the visit by the mustelids. The application of fish oil in the nest box can serve as an extra lure.
