Description
The number of breeding places for kestrels is decreasing, this nest box helps the kestrel to find a suitable breeding place. A nest box for kestrels is successful in many cases for this species. It is a nice large element where, through the large opening, it is easy to see whether it is inhabited or not. Nest boxes are often placed by growers for natural mice control.
PLACEMENT
The nest box is hung at a minimum height of 4 meters with the opening to the north or east.
Because kestrels hunt over open areas, it is important to find a good place for the nest box on a solitary tree between the fields, a forest edge or tree avenue. Take into account a clear flight path and ensure that the kestrel has a good view of the surroundings from its nest box. If the box is placed in an area where geese also want to use it, it is recommended to attach a vertical slat halfway into the opening. This makes the opening too small for geese to land, but remains large enough for a kestrel. Fill the bottom of the box with a good layer of pearl gravel.
MAINTENANCE
During the annual cleaning of the cupboard in autumn, it is recommended to check the mounting attachment. The large box has to endure a lot of wind at that height. Completely empty the box every year and fill it with fresh nesting material.
concrete plex
The inside is completely finished with concrete plywood. This ensures that this container is easy and thorough to clean.
Appearance
The larch planks give the nest box a beautiful, natural look. These durable planks are treated with ecological linseed oil, so that the nest box remains intact even longer.
