Description

The grey wagtail is a bird that can be found both along flowing and standing water. It breeds in niches of bridges or banks of streams and rivers. The bird learned to adapt to the human environment, while the grey wagtail used to mainly visit natural areas, in recent decades they have been increasingly found in urbanized areas.

The numbers of this species are increasing, partly due to improved water quality, but finding suitable nest locations is a limiting factor. From this perspective, nest boxes for the greater yellow wagtail are a good alternative. When installation along flowing water, there is also a chance that dippers will use this nest box.

PLACEMENT
Place the nest box for March in the immediate vicinity of water at a maximum height of 2 meters. The best location is under a bridge or jetty. Pay extra attention to ensuring that the nest box remains dry when the water level rises. In the absence of structures that protrude above water, the nest box can also be hung on buildings close to the water.

MAINTENANCE
Clean the nest box annually in autumn.
