Description
A bumblebee nest box is divided into two rooms. The large room serves as a nesting space, the smaller one as a 'toilet'. The box is equipped with a landing platform which increases the attraction for bumblebee queens. There are ventilation holes on the side.
The nest box has 4 stainless steel legs so that it's always slightly higher and on dry land. The roof and landing platform are finished with beehive paint, this paint, is based on a vegetable binder, protects the nest box against heat and attracts both solitary bees and bumblebees.
PLACEMENT
Look for a suitable place for the nest box near flowering plants with the entrance hole facing south or east. Make sure that the box is not in full sun all day and do not place it higher than 1m above the ground.
The large room is filled for a third with nesting material such as straw, hay or moss. To attract a queen for the first time, a container with sugar water or pollen can be placed in the nest box.
MAINTENANCE
Annual cleaning and installation of new nesting material.
