Description
The nesting box for the tawny owl is a successful box that can be placed in the forest, at the forest edge or in parks and gardens with a high density of trees.
The rough wood of the large nest box ensures that the young can climb out easily. In winter, many birds use the nest box as a hiding place. Although jays, jackdaws and wood pigeons can also inhabit this nest box, a tawny owl will claim it if it finds it suitable.
INSTALLATION
The nest box is hung at a height of 4 to 8 meters in a sheltered location, out of direct sunlight, with the opening facing away from driving rain. This is very important because a lot of water can enter the nest box through the large entrance hole. The location is carefully chosen, taking into account sufficient flight paths for the large owl. On the bottom, a thick layer of thin twigs is best placed. entrance hole kan veel water de nestkast binnendringen. De locatie wordt zorgvuldig gekozen rekening houdend met voldoende aanvliegmogelijkheden voor de grote uil. Op de bodem wordt best een dikke laag dunne takjes aangebracht.
MAINTENANCE
Tawny owls start looking for a nest early, so clean the nest box before December; October and November are the most suitable months. Remove all material from the nest box and add new nesting material.
