Description
A bumblebee nest box is divided into two rooms. The large room serves as nesting space, the smaller as ’toilet’. The nest box is equipped with a landing platform that increases the attraction for bumblebee queens. On the side there are ventilation holes.
The box stands on four stainless steel legs to always stand a little higher and dry. The roof and landing platform are finished with bee box paint. This paint based on vegetable binder protects the nesting box against heat and attracts both solitary bees and bumblebees.
PLACEMENT
Look for a suitable place for this box near flowering plants with the entrance hole facing south or east. Make sure the box is not in full sun all day and do not place it higher than 1 meter above the ground.
The large chamber is filled one-third with nesting material such as straw, hay, or moss. To attract a queen for the first time, a dish with sugar water or pollen can be placed in the nest box.
MAINTENANCE
Annual cleaning and placement of new nesting material.
